Depending on the author's needs, this service can include developmental editing for the structure or big-picture ideas, line editing for the paragraph flow and sentence-by-sentence readability, copyediting for grammar and spelling, shortening text to fit word or character counts, formatting according to institution or journal's guidelines, checking and verifying references (according to Chicago Manual of Style (CMoS), American Psychological Association (APA), and American Medical Association (AMA).
