DC Elite More Than Just Basketball In the words of President Nelson Mandela, “Sports has the power to change, it has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does, it speaks to youth in the language they understand. Sports can awaken hope, when there was previously only despair.” Noticing the decline of youth playing sports in Southeast Michigan inspired Detroit Native and NBA Legend Derrick Coleman to creat DC Elite.Our mission is to advance the development of youth through basketball in Southeast Michigan and Canada. Our collaboration with the Bing Youth Institute not only provides us with the 501c3 fiduciary,but also provides our young student athletes with structured mentoring sessions during the summer league. Over 60 high school boys & girls teams are given the opportunity to compete in a safe and competitive environment.
