The Mississippi Missionary Conference Before 1867 The Methodist Episcopal Church, South 1867-1939 The Texas Annual Conference of The Methodist Church 1939-1968 The Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church 1968-2022 The Eastern Texas Conference of The Global Methodist Church After being affiliated with The United Methodist Church, from April of 1968, Emory United Methodist Church disaffiliated from the UMC and joined the Global Methodist Church. Our history as a Methodist congregation extends back prior to 1867, as a missionary outpost for the Mississippi Missionary Conference before actually forming as a local congregation and member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South in 1867. In 1939, Emory MEC,S united, along with other MEC, South congregations with the Methodist Episcopal Church, to form The Methodist Church. Emory Methodist Church then was a part of a merger that brought together The Methodist Church and The United Evangelical Brethren, to form The United Methodist Church in 1968. In 2022 Emory UMC, along with many other UMC congregations nation-wide, elected to disaffiliate from the UMC to join a newly formed denomination called the Global Methodist Church. This merger was effective January 1, 2023.
