Eye Care Program Mss

Eye Care Project (ECP), has been set up by Manabik Shahajya Sangstha (MSS), a non-profit organization, aiming to eliminate avoidable blindness by restoring sight through proper treatment. So far MSS-ECP have screened over patients, organized 20 eye camps and facilitated performing 528 cataract surgeries, 25 Pterygium and 15 DCR surgeries. More than 250 people received glasses for their vision correction. Global Facts and Bangladesh: According to WHO about 285 million people globally live with serious vision impairment and of these 39 million people are blind. Bangladesh has blind people of which aged 40 and older are blind due to cataract and children are blind. Every year newly blind people are added. Main causes of blindness are cataract (73.39 %), refractive error (8.87%), age related macular degeneration (1.86%), diabetic retinopathy (0.17%), glaucoma (0.73%), and others (4.98%). What is a Cataract? A cataract is clouding of the lens of the eye. Cataract blindness occurs when the natural lens of the eye becomes hard and cloudy; these interferers with the passage of light to the retina causing a gradual loss of vision and ultimately, blindness. It is the most common cause of vision loss in people over age 40. It is the principle cause of blindness in the world. Why will You Sponsor? Eyes play a vital role in our day to day lives. People who have lost their sight or visually impaired have no idea of colors and objects which is a curse to their lives. low vision and blindness have terrible effects on individuals, families and communities, such as decrease in quality of life, income loss, unemployment, high levels of poverty and social isolation as well. Cataract blindness can be treated by a simple surgical procedure by removing the clouded natural lens and replacing it by a new artificial lens. Only our early intervention and detection especially with a 20-minute cataract surgery can restore eye sight of a blind person!
