Faraja Foundation

Faraja Foundation (formerly Faraja Trust) is a Kenyan Non-Profit Organisation located in South B, 10km to the South-Eastern side of Nairobi CBD. It was founded in by a Swiss Benedictine Priest called Fr. Peter Meienberg for the benefit of the vulnerable members of the society among them women, refugees, and children. Over time, he realized how wanting the living conditions were in prisons when he had to bail out refugees in Nairobi’s women and male prisons and as a result, prisons became the core focus for Faraja. The primary purpose for the Foundation has been to provide the support needed by vulnerable people to grow, expand and realize their full potential and capabilities through spiritual and emotional care, emergency humanitarian aid, skills training, small business start-up support, counseling, vocational training and provision of scholarship opportunities. The scope of Faraja’s work in the strategic plan period 2018 to 2022 revolves around prisons, juvenile institutions, probation hostels and children rehabilitation centers including their respective families and host communities for reintegration. The Foundation carries out the rehabilitation and reintegration program under three (3) key thematic areas: 1. Capacity Development Projects (CDP) 2. Community Adaptation Projects (CAP) 3. Human Rights Advocacy Projects (HRAP) These key thematic areas are strengthened through subsidiary projects namely: 1. Humanitarian Assistance & Emergency Response (HASER) in support of CAP, 2. Networking and Partnerships and 3. Institutional Strengthening Projects (ISP) for general organization support and sustainability. Our Vision A Peaceful, Safe and Dignified Society Our Mission Rehabilitate and Reintegrate offenders and Children in Conflict with the Law in a Rights-Based Approach through Capacity Development, Advocacy, and Community Adaptation Interventions.
