Fiapa
The International Federation of the Association of Older People (FIAPA) was established on the 26th of September 1980 in Paris by the will of some sixty associations from four countries (France, Italy, Belgium, and Spain) to defend the rights and interests of elderly people within our contemporary society. Today, the FIAPA gathers 41 associations or federations spread in about fifteen countries. As official public utility association, the FIAPA is an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO), enjoying a special consultative status at the United Nations Organization. The FIAPA works in close collaboration with UNESCO and also with the World Health Organization (WHO). As a result, the FIAPA is recognized as an international organization which represents the interests of elderly people. At the European level, the FIAPA enjoys a participative status with the Conference of the IONG of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (France).
