Filtraponics

Filtraponics is an aquaponics business focused on turning any aquarium into an educational aquaponic system. We started operation in the summer of 2021 and have been featured in presentations at Iowa State University, competed in multiple pitch competitions, won $7500, earned a little over sold wholesale orders, and act as client for capstone teams since the fall semester 2021. We are intermittently in the research and development phase, customer discovery phase, and product sales phase. We utilize aquaponics as an educational tool for customers to teach themselves or others about biological cycles and science concepts. Our target market is to sell direct to consumers through an aquaponic add on to fish tanks. Utilizing this product, we can supplement our other target market of educators. Whether they are parents, homeschoolers, or teachers, We want to provide a hands-on educational experience with additional materials to create a field trip in a box. The product itself is a drip irrigated garden with a catch basin that is intended to be located beneath a fish tank in the empty space of a tank stand. This allows the fish keeper to avoid interfering with their normal routine. The system will be fully automated, yet completely adjustable. This is unique because competitors either have the garden on the top of the tank (causing issues with the customers normal routine) or have a lack of options (inability to add the garden to various tanks).
