Global Community Innovations (GCI) is an international 501c3 non-profit which works to promote nutrition and micro-enterprise in rural communities in developing countries. Embraces the free market as a means of alleviating poverty in a sustainable way. By identifying affordable and appropriate technologies which are produced in the local market, GCI helps farmers produce nutritious and organic crops that improve their families daily diet and increase the household income. GCI projects include greenhouses, drip irrigation, bio-intensive farming and the production of organic fertilizers and pesticides. Beneficiaries of the projects are treated as customers rather than recipients of charity. The technologies are designed at a cost that is accessible and financed at a low rate of interest to the farmers rather than donated. This approach establishes ownership of the project by the farmers and their families and ensures that money invested in the project will be reinvested in another family once the loan has been paid.
