Grameen Kalyan

Grameen Kalyan, established in 1996 as a pioneering social business, Grameen Kalyan is a sister concern of the Grameen family founded by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. Its mission is to deliver affordable, quality healthcare to underserved rural communities across Bangladesh. The journey began with the Rural Health Program (RHP) in 1993, which evolved into a full-fledged social enterprise—Grameen Kalyan (“Kalyan” means well-being)—addressing the link between poverty and poor health. Under the leadership of Managing Director AKM Moinuddin Chowdhury, Grameen Kalyan has become one of Bangladesh’s largest primary healthcare providers. Today, it operates 143 Community-Based Health Centers across 31 districts, directly serving patients annually, while outreach programs benefit over 7 million people at a nominal cost. Services include doctor consultations, diagnostics, ultrasound, vaccinations, pharmacy, telemedicine, outreach health camps, domiciliary care, cataract eye surgery, and Micro Health Insurance (MHI)—its cornerstone model that makes healthcare financially accessible. A state-of-the-art diagnostic lab provides advanced tests for thyroid disorders, cardiac markers, infections, diabetes, reproductive health, and more. Each year, Grameen Kalyan conducts pathology tests, ultrasound scans, 25,700 vaccinations, telemedicine consultations, and issues 77,500 MHI cards. Over school students also receive free check-ups. Future plans include cervical and breast cancer screening, new secondary care hospitals, upgraded labs, expanded eye care, and the long-term establishment of a nursing and medical college in Chattogram. | contact@grameenkalyan.com
