Halfsunk

Naarm-based artist, composer & producer Josie Ellender under the moniker 'Halfsunk'- so named after a specific type of melancholy she felt in her late teens. At age 15, her ambitions for music creation sprouted from a love of playing piano, later going on to complete a degree in music composition, where she met peers like James Vermeesch & Daniel Markulic, and further friends Newcastle band Soyboy & the Sydney based Great Job. Her music pulls influences from the likes of Floating Points, Thom Yorke, Disasterpeace, h hunt, The Sweet Enoughs & Portishead, among others. Her debut,'InxWav', is a collaboration with Sydney streamer and pixel-artist Inxanity, who commissioned the album after a chance encounter and created the incredible visuals for the project, in celebration of his two year twitch anniversary. Her most recent project, a quietude, paints a struggle to reckon with moving back to the quiet tranquility of her hometown in washy, wide open ambiences, lush improvised piano and a thick sweet melancholy.
