Historicana

Historicana is a rare book and manuscript business specializing in historic Judaica and artwork of Arthur Szyk. It is also a small imprint publishing company. Historicana was established in 1987 by its founder and CEO Irvin Ungar. Irvin’s authority on Szyk’s life and work is internationally recognized. He has curated and consulted for numerous Szyk exhibitions at major institutions worldwide, including: the New-York Historical Society, New York City; the Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco; the Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin; the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, DC; and the Library of Congress. Irvin is a popular speaker at museums, libraries, universities, religious institutions, and community centers worldwide. He offers both stand-alone presentations and also engaging, customizable Scholar-in-Residence weekend programs. Irvin is the author of Arthur Szyk: Soldier in Art (winner of the 2017 National Jewish Book Award), co-producer of the documentary film, “Soldier in Art: Arthur Szyk,” and the creator and publisher of the luxury limited edition of The Szyk Haggadah. The Szyk Haggadah is in the special collections of many prestigious institutions including: The Vatican Apostolic Library, Vatican City; The British Library, London; The Library of Congress, Washington, D.C; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and The Morgan Library and Museum, New York.
