Jasmine Murrell

My work explores the unstable and shifting nature of humanity and the inherent ability of all living things to react, evolve and transform. I am interested in miracles. Those moments of impossibility that happen in the worst times and the most invisible places. I celebrate the sublime and transcendent spirit that emerges out of oppressive circumstances. My objects, installations, land interventions, and films embody these qualities. They are mutable organisms that attach to their site with a parasitic power. I use obsolete technologies, such as glossy black VHS tape as a material that can carry the past into a new transformed reality. They act as a proposal for a raw future that is founded in the critique of our unconscious, toxic, and violent associations with the body. My work aims to expose and heal historical erasures and cultivate a culture of sublime resistance.
