Jerusalem Music Centre

The Jerusalem Music Centre (JMC) was founded in 1973 by legendary violinist Isaac Stern and Mayor of Jerusalem Teddy Kollek, with the assistance of Yad Hanadiv (a Rothschild Foundation) and the Jerusalem Foundation. The JMC’s purpose was to nurture the finest musical talents from all over Israel, and as a result of more than 40 years of work, many such talents can be seen performing on prominent concert stages across the world. The JMC takes pride in its tradition of bringing the world’s finest musicians to Israel to play and teach. As a truly global centre for musical excellence, the JMC has hosted many of the preeminent musicians of the 20th century, including Arthur Rubinstein, Pablo Casals, Leonard Bernstein, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma and Alfred Brendel. The JMC enjoys exceptional recognition from, and cooperation with musical institutions throughout Israel, including local conservatories and Israel’s two musical academies. Though our unique position as an independent organisation, not tied to any one location or institution, the JMC is able to offer year-round musical programs for outstanding young musicians from all across the country. The program brings these aspiring artists together alongside their peers to learn from world-class musicians and teachers. Such meetings range in scope from one-day masterclasses to multi-week residential courses. Through these ongoing and varied encounters we help to provide our young musicians with the tools and inspiration needed in order to continue successfully on their journey towards musical excellence. Under the direction of renowned pianist Murray Perahia, the JMC continues to imbue these young musicians with the very same love, passion, and respect for the art shared by by great musicians throughout the centuries.
