Kenana Knitters is a social enterprise based in Njoro, Kenya, dedicated to empowering rural women through sustainable, fair-trade handknitting. Founded in 1998, our mission has always been simple yet powerful: to change lives stitch by stitch. What began as a small initiative to provide women with an income they could earn from home has grown into a thriving community of over 500 knitters and spinners. These women transform locally sourced, natural wool and organic cotton into unique toys, knitwear, and homeware that are loved around the world. Each piece is hand-crafted with care and creativity, carrying not just the story of the maker but also the dignity and independence that comes with meaningful work. At Kenana Knitters, we are committed to fair trade principles and environmentally responsible production. Our wool is hand-spun and hand-dyed using natural, plant-based dyes wherever possible, ensuring our products are as sustainable as they are beautiful.
