Mercy Cross High School
Mercy Cross High School (MCHS) was a private Roman Catholic secondary school (grades 7-12) in Biloxi, Mississippi, founded in 1981. It was formed from the merger of two other high schools in Biloxi: Sacred Heart High School (an all-girls school) and Notre Dame High School (an all-boys school). Mercy Cross, a co-ed institution, derived its name from the Sisters of Mercy and the Brothers of the Holy Cross, who had long taught students in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Biloxi. The school was located on the original Notre Dame High School campus, at 390 Crusaders Dr, Biloxi, Mississippi, nestled between Keegan's Bayou to the east and the Biloxi sewage treatment plant to the west. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage to MCHS, leading to the temporary relocation of classes while construction of a new school began. In August 2007, MCHS was permanently replaced by St. Patrick Catholic High School in Biloxi, which resulted from the merger of MCHS and St. John High School of Gulfport, Mississippi.
