Oasys Research Group

The OASYS Research Group was founded in January 2018 at the University of Málaga and is headed by Dr. Juan Miguel Morales, Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics. The group currently comprises 12 members including faculty members, post-doc researchers, PhD students, research assistants and technical staff and is based at the Ada Byron Research Centre in Málaga, Spain. OASYS addresses one of the most important challenges of our modern society: the development of mathematical methods and solutions to achieve more efficient, secure and sustainable energy systems. OASYS' main lines of research are design, development and implementation of algorithms and mathematical models for decision-making under uncertainty. Development of procedures for the use of large amounts of data in the operation and planning of Smart Energy Grids. Design of methods for forecasting and optimization, with particular focus on their application to sustainable energy systems. Development of algorithms for the efficient solution of large-scale optimization problems, and Application of game theory to the analysis of energy markets and the interactions among market players. The members of OASYS have published over 140 articles, 108 in high-impact journals. Collectively they have participated in over 25 projects, both Spanish and European. They have also contributed to over 130 international and national conferences. The members of the group have won 5 prestigious awards since 2017, including the ERC Starting Grant awarded to Dr. Juan Miguel Morales in 2017 for Flexanalytics: Advanced analytics to empower the small flexible consumers of electricity. Most recently Dr. S. Pineda and Dr. J. M. Morales were awarded Best Contribution to Operational Research by the I Statistics and Operational Research Society (SEIO)- BBVA Foundation Awards, July 2020.
