Pasiphae Lab

Pasiphae Lab, part of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) in Crete, is a leading research unit headed by Principal Investigator Prof. Evangelos K. Markakis. Established in 2004, the lab excels in research on public safety, cybersecurity, emergency communications, and broadband networks, advancing secure and resilient communication technologies. Its mission focuses on three key areas: Scientific & Technological: Conducting innovative research in ICT, including cable, wireless, and mobile networks, linear and interactive broadcasting, and secure communication protocols. Educational & Academic: Supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students through research opportunities and knowledge transfer. Knowledge Diffusion & Exploitation: Bridging research with industrial, societal, and economic sectors through impactful dissemination and partnerships. Pasiphae Lab has a strong track record in Horizon Europe and other EU-funded projects, driving innovation in cybersecurity frameworks, secure broadband communication systems, and next-generation emergency response platforms. Its leadership in public safety technologies, such as cyber-physical systems and real-time emergency communications, has earned it recognition as a European pioneer. The lab’s contributions have enhanced security protocols, ensured robust communication infrastructures, and developed scalable solutions for critical systems. Equipped with state-of-the-art tools, Pasiphae Lab houses Greece’s first digital interactive TV infrastructure and a prototype cloud platform supporting Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). It also operates an outdoor mobile unit, unique in Crete, for non-ionizing radiation measurements, essential for safety and compliance.
