Peter Cox Kunst

Landscapes are Peter Cox's most important starting point for his paintings. The motifs for his paintings are derived from natural examples, such as mountain ranges, crevices, slopes, forests and seas. Using colours, signs and shapes in a certain rhythm, he makes his personal comments to the landscape and the results are inner landscapes that, certainly in his paintings, tend to abstraction. Peter phrased it as follows:"What I observe in nature must have a certain tension and in the studio the recollection of that image should evoke a similar kind of emotion before I start working on it." His recent work reflects impressions from his stay in Australia, China and Madeira whereas the series 'lichtval'(incidence of light) show the versatility of light spots in a landscape, in which the brightness of the colours, the position of the colour fields and the transparency or saturation of the paint play a vital role. Despite the abstract features, the images origins always remain perceptible.
