Stowmarries

Living legend Johnny Stowmarries is a permanent-fixture artist from the pre-internet Brisbane music scene. Having formed dream-scene duo The Goths in 1987, Johnny embarked on a solo career releasing his compendium LP ‘Weather Being’ in 2023. Johnny's material draws from the literary canon and modern fictional forms, genre-busting and otherworldliness, along with conventional styles like nostalgia and escapism. His works centre largely around personages in literature, what he describes as ‘subjective versions of the self and literary figures drawn from a first-person perspective’. Certain works contain what he terms ‘outré’ lyrical themes oftentimes referencing folklore, mythology and legend. His sound is bass- and guitar-driven, featuring what he calls ‘cheap effects; as in sustain and delay’. The Stowmarries 'Weather Being' LP runs the gauntlet from classicism to grindhouse.
