Studio Trisorio

Inaugurated in 1974 by Pasquale and Lucia Trisorio with a show by Dan Flavin, Studio Trisorio immediately followed all the various languages of contemporary art including photography, video and installation. Manzoni, Boetti, Grosvenor, Arakawa were some of the artists shown at the gallery at that time. The Studio Trisorio was one of the first galleries to exhibit photography for the 1970s, with shows by photographers including Brandt, Jodice, Saudek, Newton, Ghirri, Eggleston, Parr, Salgado, and Lange. In the early 1980s, Studio Trisorio was a precursor in presenting an “International Review of Video Art”. The exhibition featured early experiments in video art with works by numerous artists, including: Acconci, Boltanski, Nauman, Nam June Paik, Paolini, and Viola. Between the 1980s and the 1990s American artists such as Ed Ruscha, Tom Wesselmann, and Mel Ramos, presented their works at the Studio Trisorio. From 1970 to 1989 the Trisorio family provided a veritable community of artists, critics, gallery owners and museum directors with a very special space in which to work: Villa Orlandi in Anacapri, where the iconic image "La rivoluzione siamo noi" by Joseph Beuys was taken. Artists such as Twombly, Kounellis, Merz, Sol LeWitt, Scharf, Sherman and Spalletti, among others, stayed there. Under the direction of Laura Trisorio, the gallery experienced a new impulse which gave rise to collaborations with artists such as Lawrence Carroll, Rebecca Horn, Daniel Buren, Jan Fabre, Louis Bourgeois, and Francesco Arena. Since 1996, the gallery has organized Artecinema, an international festival of documentary films on contemporary art, that takes place every year in October at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples. The festival is widely acclaimed by both the general public and art critics with more than people attending the event. Currently the gallery has four exhibition venues: three in Naples and a new one in Capri, which was opened in April 2022.
