Teach With Tvw

At Teach with TVW, our mission is to provide Washington State teachers with the tools they need to engage the next generation in the legislative process. We offer free, hands-on civics programs that create a rich and engaging learning experience that involves students in the legislative process. Our flagship program, Capitol Classroom, teaches students how to participate, by working directly with our team of volunteer lobbyists in Olympia via bi-weekly Zoom meetings. Students and teachers choose actual bills to support, oppose, or amend, and then advocate on their position as it moves through the process. For class schedules that do not align with the legislative session, we offer Capitol Classroom PLUS, a flexible alternative for teaching Washington state civics. Included are curriculum kits based on recent legislation that are aligned with state Social Studies standards. In addition to these programs, we also offer CONNECTS, a student-driven Q&A show that airs on TVW. This program gives students the opportunity to ask questions and engage with WA state leaders, elected officials and political experts, helping them to develop the critical thinking skills for informed civic engagement.
