Palmprint
PalmPrint is a climate research and innovation initiative reimagining palm waste as a resource for a circular built environment. Across Libya and the wider MENA region, palm biomass is abundant yet largely underutilized, often treated as waste rather than opportunity. PalmPrint was developed to change that reality by exploring how local palm byproducts can be transformed into climate-responsive building material systems suited for arid environments. At its core, PalmPrint operates with a research-first approach—bringing together architecture, material research, environmental performance, and circular economy thinking to address sustainability challenges while opening pathways for green jobs and local value creation. PalmPrint was selected among the top 100 projects worldwide under the UNESCO x Nestlé Youth Impact: Because You Matter Global Youth Grant Scheme, from nearly global applications. This support enables the project’s research, capacity-building, and early pilot activities. Rooted in Libya and designed with a regional outlook, PalmPrint aims to build the knowledge foundation for future circular construction solutions—where materials respond to climate, resources are valued locally, and sustainability is built into the system from the start.
