Uso Of Hampton Roads And Central Virginia
The USO doesn’t save lives. It doesn’t repair broken bodies or build prosthetics. What we do is enhance the quality of life for countless active duty military members and their families with offerings that might not otherwise be affordable or available to them. Junior enlisted ranks do not earn high incomes but are frequently the ones called to do the most dangerous work of the military. Long deployments take their toll on all military family members. The USO is there, on military bases, in airports, and in every theater in which there is a conflict. There is no way to gauge the long term impact of our services other than this: Every USO employee has multiple stories of being stopped by grateful service people who express sometimes tearful appreciation for a hot cup of coffee, a kind word, a Skype opportunity to witness the birth of a new baby, or a holiday party that takes the edge off the absence of a deployed mom or dad. We need them. They need us. We need you.

Vetrest
Finding Peace from the Hidden Battle" A national 501(c)(3), VetREST's mission is help our veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) get help by engaging them in gardening, teaching them how to farm and work with animals or plants in safe and wholistic environments. How we started: After a cumulative period of receiving daily emails of soldier suicides, MG Daniel York (USAR) put a plan in motion to stem the problem by addressing what is recognized as often a contributing issue—Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) and the suffering it brings into the lives of so many Veterans. “According to recent studies over veterans experience PTS and it is estimated that approximately 20% of over two million service members who deployed will develop PTSD.” [see Four West Point graduates collectively provided the initial funding. VetREST launched with the intent of helping Vets address their challenges with a goal of finding peace from their hidden battles. Our Strategy: VetREST has two key lines of effort to help participating Vets. Each Line of Effort was carefully constructed by experienced men and women who have a compassion for our countries brave Veterans. The first and most powerful line is coaching. The second line is establishing healthy living. These lines of efforts are put into action through the creation of chapters across the country. Currently VetREST has chapters launching in Portland, OR, San Antonio, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, Atlanta, GA, northern VA, and New York City-Philly-Jersey.
