HMS Makina, ilk olarak 1979 yılında,otomotiv endüstrisine yüksek hassasiyetli torna parçaları üretmek amacıyla kurulmuştur.2005 yılında, Çiğli/İzmir tesisine taşınarak üretim kapasitesini ve kabiliyetini genişletmiştir. 2012 yılında, yeniden yapılandırma içine girmiş ve bunu tamamladıktan sonra Kasım 2013'te Manisa'daki yeni konumuna taşınmıştır. Savunma Sanayi Müsteşarlığı çağrılarına danışman veya yüklenici olarak katılım gerçekleştirilir. Firmalara bu alanda destek sağlanır. Üniversite içerisinde Bilimsel Araştırma Projeleri çerçevesinde ARGE projeleri gerçekleştirilir. Ekip içerisindeki araştırma bilincinin geliştirilmesi amacıyla her öğrenci kendi ekip içi danışmanının verdiği konularda araştırma gerçekleştirerek çalışmasını ekibe sunar. Ekip üyelerinin araştırma raporlarının derlenmesi ile model uçak ve İHA literatürüne ait kapsamlı bir veritabanı oluşturulmaktadır. Gerçekleştirilen İHA tasarımları ve analiz çalışmaları lisansüstü öğrenciler tarafından ulusal ve uluslararası sempozyumlara bildiri, dergilere makale olarak gönderilmektedir.
