Sadc Aviation Safety Organisation

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is a Regional Economic Organisation consisting of sixteen (16) Member States. These are; Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The Aviation sector plays a vital part in contributing to the economies of the SADC Member States. The SADC Member States established this organisation to enhance the safety of civil aviation in the Region. SASO is a support organisation that stands as the engine for regulatory, procedural and training harmonisation. SASO is established as a Subsidiarity Organisation within SADC. This Organisation’s mandate is to enhance the safety of civil aviation by complementing, to the extent required, the certification and oversight capabilities of SADC Member States. VISION To be the success driver behind SADC’s achievement of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices. MISSION STATEMENT To encourage economic growth in SADC by ensuring that civil aviation safety standards are harmonised and implemented consistently in the Member states through the development of effective oversight systems.
