The First MicroFinance Bank- Syria (FMFB-S) is the first and largest bank for microfinance in Syria. It was established in 2007 with the aim of alleviating poverty and improving the quality of life of its clients. In December 2007, the Central Bank of Syria issued an initial license for establishing the First MicroFinance Institution-Syria. The granting of this license was announced by the Governor of Central Bank of Syria at the first conference for microfinance policies in Syria, which was held in Damascus in November 2007. The final approval on the registration of First MicroFinance Institution- Syria at the Registry of Financial Companies in Damascus was made on 18 October 2008. In February 2021, the law pertaining to the establishment of microfinance banks was issued. This law will representhas proved a paradigm shift in the microfinance sector in the country.
