Dutton Plastics Engineering was founded in 1947 as a company producing dies for metal pressings. Over the years that followed DPE grew from strength to strength and in 1987 we became part of the Zimco Group of Companies, who are South Africa’s leading producer of Industrial and Base minerals, a major producer and supplier of Zinc, Lead, Aluminium Metal and Alloys, related chemicals and engineering plastics. Zimco was purchased by Eco-Bat Technologies in a parent company with operations in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Austria and the USA. Dutton Plastics Engineering operates from a 3 hectare site in Johannesburg, South Africa with 12 of factory space. We have branches in Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth and agents operating in East London, Bloemfontein and Namibia. Equipment includes machines for injection moulding, blow moulding and compression moulding. Machines ranging from 20 tons to 800 tons have placed DPE in the ranks of the larger reputed plastic converters of its type. Since our conception, DPE have changed very little in the way we do things, but perfected our processes. Our involvement with Zimco and Eco-Bat means that we have the backing of a major global player. Apollo Brick was formed in 1995 with the purchased Eagle Brick & Tile in Gauteng. The Atlantis factory operating as Brakkefontein Clay Products was later acquired allowing us to expand our presence in the Western Cape market. In 2017, the Apollo Group was restructured. Brakkefontein Clay Products (Pty) Ltd acquired the Gauteng company (Apollo Brick (Pty) Ltd), reuniting the two operations. This restructuring has led to a stronger, more efficient and effective operation, without compromising on the high standards of quality and service that have been established over the years. Apollo Brick is a principle-based clay brick manufacturer operating in a mining environment and selling our products (NFP & NFX bricks) to the construction industry. Apollo Brick manufactures approximately 200 million bricks per annum using the traditional process of mining, clay beneficiation, extrusion, open air drying and clamp burning, making the process susceptible to weather conditions and variations in the quality of the clay material being mined. Critical factors influencing the operation and profitability of the various factories are weather conditions, drying times of the bricks, wastage, cost management and sales. The bricks are sold to clients in the construction industry being major, medium, small contractors, building material merchants and private individuals.
