Uganda Securities Exchange
The Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) was established in 1997, as a company limited by guarantee, and was licensed in 1998 by the Capital Markets Authority to operate as an approved securities exchange. The Exchange is governed by a Governing Council whose membership includes licensed broker/dealer firms, investment advisers, a representative of investors and a representative of issuers. The Exchange is a central place for trading of securities by licensed brokers/dealers. It provides a credible platform for raising of capital; through the issuance of appropriate debt, equity and other instruments to the investing public. In this way, the Exchange provides essential facilities for the private sector and government to raise money for business expansion and enables the public to own shares in companies listed on the Exchange. Capital Markets Authority Cma Uganda
The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) was set up in 1996 through an Act of Parliament Cap 64. CMA, making it a statutory body charged with the prime responsibility of developing all aspects of the capital markets with particular emphasis on the removal of impediments to, and the creation of incentives for longer term investments in productive enterprises; the creation, maintenance and regulation through implementation of a system in which the market participants are self-regulatory to the maximum practicable extent, and of a market in which securities can be issued and traded in an orderly, fair and efficient manner; the protection of investor interests; and the operation of an Investor Compensation Fund. CMA licenses and supervises market intermediaries, approves applications of public offers, conducts on-site and off-site market surveillance, enforces compliance, and promotes market integrity and investor confidence.
