The Lost Tinamou Nature Preserve
Located in Guatemala’s Pacific piedmont, The Lost Tinamou Nature Preserve lies within a mosaic of agricultural lands, riparian corridors, and recovering secondary forests. From this working landscape, we focus on protecting, monitoring, and documenting native flora and the wildlife that depends on it. We believe conservation grows from curiosity, shared data and stories, and time spent outdoors together. We welcome budding naturalists, students, and visiting researchers who wish to learn through field experience, and our work is guided by a simple idea: Birding in Service of Nature Conservation.

Organización Ecológica Sol Y Verde
We are a rural Guatemalan community organisation dedicated to restoration of the Mayan jungle, permaculture principles, local engagement and education, regenerative agroforestry, and sustainable living in harmony with nature. Our main project site is 2.5 hectares of degraded land near the village of Paxcaman (Peten, Guatemala). We are restoring the area by planting a diverse food forest with agroforestry trees (cacao, ramon, papaya, etc), medicinal herbs, spices, legumes and nutritious vegetables. A biodiverse mix of forest trees, palms and flowers are also being planted to encourage insects and birdlife. We use ancestral practices, organic methods, culturally significant species and permaculture design. We are building an ecological school on the site using traditional bioconstruction techniques with locally sourced, eco-friendly materials. The school will be a space for permaculture focussed learning, community groups, and school visits. We are also creating a tree nursery grown from locally collected seeds and an aquaculture system with tilapia, to provide supplies of native agroforestry seedlings and fish for local families. Beyond the project site, we run outreach activities, such as nature restoration community events and providing technical support for farmers to transition to permaculture practices. We also host international volunteers and partner with organisations locally and overseas.
