Stl Neighborhood Foresters
Our mission is to empower residents to make STL a better place to live by improving our tree canopy. In the unforgiving urban environment, simple issues can become death sentences for trees. Many urban trees decline before maturity; climate change adds even more stress. Growing the canopy requires we improve trees’ living conditions and address causes of premature decline, a task too big for Forestry to tackle alone. Neighborhood Foresters, partners with the Forestry Division to provide residents gear, training and official permission to help care for city trees. Our shared goal is to enable Forestry staff to focus their skills on more technical tasks, while volunteers handle the routine care needed to improve the health and density of the urban tree canopy. It is our eventual goal to expand Neighborhood Foresters throughout the City of St. Louis and beyond! Communities will benefit most if we work together to improve our urban forestry efforts across the STL metro region. We are excited to build community partnerships and demonstrate to residents ways we can support them in creating healthier, happier communities. Wellington Conservation Center
Wellington Conservation Center is home to all unwanted, and abandoned animals. We care for orphaned birds and mammals and specialize in the conservation of exotic animals under the threat of habitat loss and poaching, including two critically endangered species. Our mission is simple; provide loving help and care to as many animals as we can! Whether it is taking in orphaned wildlife for rehabilitation, or an unwanted or abandoned pet that needs a happy life, we are here FOR THE ANIMALS! Even if we ourselves cannot give the animal the help it needs we do are darndest to find someone who will. We have pointed countless wildlife inquiries in the proper direction and placed multiple big cats and bears to specialized organizations all over the country! Our story starts a long, long time ago in a foreign land called … Illinois. A family run farm originally suited for horses, slowly morphed into something even more special. With a heart too big to deny animals a home when needed, animals of all shapes and sizes started to call a new sanctuary their own. Lions, tigers, cougars, monkeys, alpacas, ostriches, and our favorite animal, the black bear. Not just any black bear, but one named Pooh, who would send us on a mission that we are still fighting for to this day. After over 20 years of running our facility in Chicago, the decision was made to move to this location in Wellington, Florida! Illinois and Florida are a bit different, so we made a shift in our focus to wildlife rehabilitation and, utilizing the tropical environment, conservation programs for species under the threat of extinction. WCC now boasts four breeding programs for Linnaeus’s Two-toed Sloths, Southern Tamanduas, Black and White Ruffed Lemurs and Red Ruffed Lemurs! However the calls for rescues keep on pouring in, so we also supply lifelong homes to as many displaced animals as we can! Now at over 50 animals strong, we are a little full, but are always open for expansion!

Calaveras County Resource Conservation District
On the November 2016 ballot, Calaveras county voters approved the formation of our RCD. Calaveras County was the last rural county in California to establish an RCD. Under the rules established in the formation documents, no dedicated monies from the County or taxes will be collected to fund the Calaveras RCD. Therefore, for us to build infrastructure and programs to assist county landowners and residents, we must access creative funding streams. Typically, funding is thus obtained by receiving donations and writing and receiving grants. An RCD is a local, grassroots government special district that aims to assist our county landowners with educational programs and field projects. Our focus will always be on projects that enhance and highlight private lands. Nevertheless, we can also work with other resource agencies to plan and implement conservation practices on public lands if those activities would improve resource conditions in Calaveras County.

FLOW's solution-oriented work comes at a time when the health of the Great Lakes hangs in the balance, and citizens and leaders are looking for viable long-term policies to improve and protect these common waters. Famed environmental attorney Jim Olson and a coalition of citizens formed FLOW in 2011. As the Great Lakes Basin's only public trust policy and education center, we demonstrate how policies like the public trust and commons can provide an overarching policy framework that empowers decision-makers to safeguard 20 percent of the world's fresh water. FLOW develops policy programs and educates high-level decision-makers, city and community leaders, and citizens to adopt and incorporate public trust ideas into decisions affecting water, energy, food, and climate change in the Great Lakes.
