Friends Of Jack Primate Sanctuary
FRIENDS OF JACK PRIMATE SANCTUARY is a US 501(c)(3) non-profit with the specific purpose to support the preservation of wildlife in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) through promotion of educational programs, funding for conservation efforts, and other activities aimed at preventing wildlife extinction. Our main conservation areas support the rescue and rehabilitation of primates in the DRC, mainly chimpanzees and many species of Afro-EuroAsian monkeys who are endemic to the DRC. To that end, the Organization will work with and support the DRC conservation organizations already working to advance these charitable goals.

Grace Gorillas
Located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) near the Tayna Nature Reserve, GRACE is the world’s only sanctuary for rescued Grauer’s gorillas, a critically endangered subspecies found only in eastern DR Congo. Grauer's gorillas have suffered a catastrophic population decline of nearly 80% in the past 20 years. Despite operating in one of the most remote, challenging areas of the world, GRACE has become an award-winning NGO that the local Congolese community describes as “an oasis of hope.” GRACE has 3 program pillars that receive equal focus: 1. Rewilding Grauer’s gorillas: GRACE runs the only sanctuary in the world for critically endangered Grauer’s gorillas rescued from wildlife trafficking. We are trailblazing better ways to release gorillas back into the wild. Protecting forest habitat: GRACE is working to protect acres of remote primary tropical forest. This area forms a key habitat for critically endangered Grauer’s gorillas. The Tayna Nature Reserve is a priority habitat for Grauer’s gorilla conservation, with important remaining Grauer’s populations living in the reserve’s boundaries. Already active in Tayna, GRACE is now working to connect this vital habitat to Maiko National Park with a new conservation corridor that establishes land rights for the local communities. Engaging local communities: GRACE practices community-led conservation, including implementing locally-designed solutions, conservation education, sustainable livelihood and development projects, and biodiversity monitoring to foster peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife. Prioritizing the engagement of youth and women in ecological stewardship, GRACE continues to build conservation leadership programs in schools and local community groups.

Blue Ridge Bartram Trail Conservancy
The Blue Ridge Bartram Trail Conservancy, formerly known as the North Carolina Bartram Trail Society was organized on November 1, 1977. The Conservancy is supported solely by memberships and occasional grants. Donations are tax-deductible and most welcome. Our Mission- To recognize and honor the Philadelphia-born naturalist, William Bartram, who traveled through the southeast between the years 1773 and writing exact and vivid descriptions of the plants and animals he saw and the native tribes he encountered, and who published these writings in 1791 as Travels of William Bartram- To establish and maintain a 110 mile memorial trail, following a route as close as possible to Bartram’s original route through northeast Georgia and western North Carolina- To promote further inquiry and knowledge about the plants and animals of the southern Appalachians, as well as the traditions and culture of the native Cherokee people, which Bartram encountered on his travels here in 1775. Our History The Blue Ridge Bartram Trail Conservancy, formerly known as the North Carolina Bartram Trail Society was organized on November 1, 1977, by eleven North Carolina residents. It was the culmination of several years of dreaming, research, and planning. Among the leaders of this group were the late Walter G. McKelvey, Mr. Charles Moore, and Mr. Rowell Bosse, all of Brevard. Dr. J. Dan Pittillo, of Cullowhee, professor emeritus of botany from Western Carolina University, was also instrumental in the formative years of the Conservancy and continues to serve on the Board of Directors today. Today, the Conservancy has grown to more than 200 members, who come primarily from the Southeastern states but also from across the country and around the world, from British Columbia to New Zealand. It is governed by a 501c3 non-profit Board of Directors that meets quarterly to direct the growth of the Conservancy.
