Northampton County Conservation District
Over 65 years ago Pennsylvania state legislators recognized the need to support grassroots local conservation efforts. As a result, the PA Conservation District Law was passed authorizing the creation of county conservation districts in every county, except Philadelphia. The Northampton County Conservation District was founded in 1961 when a group of farmers joined together to promote the use of conservation practices to protect soil and water resources in Northampton County. Today, the Northampton County Conservation District's main goals are to promote soil conservation, maintain or improve water quality and promote environmental education. To achieve these goals, the Conservation District performs a variety of programs ranging from reviewing erosion and sediment pollution control plans for earth disturbance activities to providing advice on starting a local watershed association. The Conservation District is led by a seven member Board of Directors. District Directors are volunteers that are nominated by an approved local organization and then appointed by Northampton County government. Their responsibilities range from policy creation to supporting efforts of district staff and their partner agencies to provide quality administrative, technical, and educational assistance to all county residents. Four members of the board are farmer directors, two are public directors and one is a representative of Northampton County Council.

Detroit River - Western Lake Erie Cooperative Weed Management Area
The Detroit River-Western Lake Erie Cooperative Weed Management Area was established in 2011 by 13 partners working in federal, state, and local government, non-governmental organizations, and universities dedicated to the prevention and eradication of invasive species in Wayne and Monroe Counties. All DR-WLE CWMA members work collaboratively to: 1. DETECTION, INVENTORY AND MONITORING. Cooperatively develop detection, inventory, and monitoring protocols across jurisdictional boundaries, and exchange data. PREVENTION. Prevent the establishment of new invasive plant species. INVASIVE SPECIES MANAGEMENT. Promote effective, integrated reduction methods, and eradication when possible, of invasive plant species that have already become established. COOPERATION. Facilitate development of cooperative agreements for local invasive plant management, which include opportunities for shared funding sources, personnel, including volunteers, equipment, contract crews, expertise, etc. INFORMATION EXCHANGE. Share technical information regarding new and established invasive species distribution, treatment locations, and reduction methods. EDUCATION. Increase public and staff awareness of invasive plant and animal species.

L.I.G.H.T. Foundation
The L.I.G.H.T. Foundation (LF and Foundation interchangeably) is an independent, Indigenous-led, charitable entity organized exclusively for educational, conservation, literary, and research purposes established in 2022. It supports the restoration and cultivation of native Plant and Pollinator Relatives and the culturally appropriate and respectful conservation of habitats and ecosystems which are climate resilient and adaptive. Specifically, LF was formed with a three-pronged mission to:(1) Cultivate positive relationships between Indigenous Peoples and landowners in order to have shared outcomes in ecological stewardship, habitat conservation, and climate adaptation.(2) Enrich communities by providing hands-on tools and support for teaching gathering traditions and honoring native plants and pollinators in culturally appropriate ways.(3) Perpetuate the ecological heritage of Indigenous Peoples through intergenerational knowledge transmission and supporting traditional landscape practices. The Foundation accomplishes this mission through the operation of five initiatives developed to support community-based and intergenerational climate resilience, food and water security, rights of nature, and the advancement of Indigenous Peoples rights and Tribal sovereignty. These initiatives are: Roots for the Future, Secure Harvest, Certified Indigenous, First Food Pollinators, and Indigenous Climate Futures. Additionally, the L.I.G.H.T. Foundation also operates the We Swim Together Scholarship Program, developed to provide financial assistance to aspiring Indigenous academics. Through the support of our all-volunteer Advisory Team and Council of Guides (i.e, Board of Directors), LF also engages in public comment opportunities at the local, regional, and national levels.
