Southern African Wildlife College
The Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC), or better known as ‘The College’ to our students and staff, has conservation at the heart of all we do. The idea for an educational institution to service the Southern African region was born out of the need to strengthen the training of protected area managers for challenges arising within the conservation sector. And so, in 1996 the Southern African Wildlife College was founded by WWF-SA in association with the Peace Parks Foundation. Our mission was to become a regionally recognised centre of specialisation in conservation education, training and skills development. Not only was this achieved but the College has gone on to become a leader of conservation training and education institutions in Southern Africa. OUR VISION: To inspire every person we train and engage with to conserve our natural world. OUR PURPOSE & VALUES: To equip people with the necessary knowledge and applied skills to conserve and protect Africa’s natural resources and its biodiversity in viable, inclusive and economically successful ways. Due to the hard work and dedication of many individuals the SAWC is now pioneering the way forward in key fields of the conservation sector. Our unique blended approach to learning and education has meant that we offer a well-balanced perspective and opportunity for students, staff and stakeholders alike.

African Bioacoustics Community
Bioacoustic research from Africa and by African scientists is not well represented in the global field and thus the African Bioacoustics Community strives to shine a light on the achievements of bioacoustics research in Africa. We work towards equal representation, access to crucial learning and networking opportunities, and providing an environment where information flows freely between scientists, research labs, countries, and continents. Sustainability and minimizing our carbon footprint is something we value highly and we work hard to ensure that our events are sustainable, plastic-free and carbon responsible. As part of our effort in this matter, we ask that members of our community consider carbon-offsetting measures or donating to a cause that aligns with our values. The African Bioacoustics Community wants to make the science of sound accessible to the continent of Africa. We cannot achieve this without a diverse and inclusive mindset, valuing new ideas, and celebrating different approaches. We hope to foster connection and relationships between people who are passionate about the unique and fascinating field of bioacoustics. Our ultimate goal is to provide a socially and environmentally conscious place for researchers to network, to learn and to share their research in the field of bioacoustics. Rooiberg Breede River Conservancy
The Rooiberg Breede River Conservancy is a Non-Profit Organisation working to conserve the natural world of the majestic Langeberg and Rooiberg Mountains, between the towns of Worcester and Robertson in the Western Cape of South Africa. Here landowners work together for nature, to protect natural and agricultural land over more than hectares. We have grown and evolved since we were established in 2006 and our Non-Profit Organisation was set-up in 2013, and today we are proud to have 32 landowner members. Why is this region so important for nature? It’s home to threatened fynbos, Succulent Karoo and renosterveld. In fact, four of our 14 natural vegetation types are facing extinction. Many of our plant species occur only here and nowhere else on Earth. These natural landscapes also provide corridors for wildlife between agricultural lands - from the iconic Cape leopard to the mysterious brown hyena. Our freshwater species are just as important, with the conservancy home to restricted populations of the Endangered Breede Redfin. It’s no surprise therefore that we form part of a Critical Biodiversity Area, as well as a climate corridor. The conservancy employs a team that works to find and implement solutions that support both nature and people. As such, we run projects that include rehabilitating landscapes, removing invasive alien plants, monitoring biodiversity, erosion control and fire protection. We also focus on environmental education and awareness and support our landowners to become biodiversity stewardship sites. Given our pristine setting, many of our members now showcase this vast open and ancient landscape through tourist offerings - from accommodation to activities. Learn more about us at:
