English Council
English is one of many important languages of the world. Importance of a language does not merely depend on the number of its speakers but on many other factors. In consideration of the number of native speakers also English is second only to Chinese. Almost four hundred million people speak English as their mother tongue or primary language. Importance of English also comes from its acceptance in many countries specifically former British and American colonies as second language, official language. India is the best example. Then comes the point of economic strength and political influence of the countries English speaking speaking people. In this respect, the sole super power of the world now is English speaking. The literature and culture that come out of English also adds to the importance of the language. Finally, English for all such reasons, or convenience have been universally accepted as the lingua franca and the only language for various fields of activities and professions of international nature. English is thus the language of the tourists of inter-country communication of shipping, aviation, hotel etc. All this considerations make English very important to us and its learning necessary. The historical reason is also there. Bangladesh had been under the British rule for two centuries. It has so developed a tradition of bearing English not only for bread and butter but also for prestige and functional purposes. We have been traditionally adopting British educational system. We have developed over the centuries, close social and cultural link and contact with the British. Thus importance of learning English in Bangladesh cannot be overstated. But when we look at the state of English in our country, we are struck by surprise. Very few, in fact a handful of people, really know English. As literacy and education is limited in Bangladesh the condition of English as a foreign language can be easily imagined. English is not again practiced.English has.

Illuminar
Illuminar is a youth organization aiming to provide free vocational education and skill-based training to the underprivileged children of Bangladesh and open up the door of opportunities to them so that they can pursue their dreams to achieve success in their lives. The goals that we aim to achieve are: • Reduce the high school dropout rate in Bangladesh: A large number of talented students in Bangladesh drop out of high school, mainly due to financial problems. We hope to reduce this number by providing them skill-based training, so as to help those children to achieve their dreams. • Creating female leaders among the deprived in the society: Most of the underprivileged women lack higher education and are dominated by males in the society. We aim to develop leadership qualities in young females of the underprivileged class by providing them opportunities for higher education as well as skill-based training, and hence reduce the gender inequality. • Ensuring higher education: By providing opportunities to high school education to those who cannot afford it but wish to continue their studies, we aim to help those students in applying to various national and international universities for higher studies in the future. • Promoting real-life application of knowledge: Providing vocational training to the students so that they can apply their knowledge and skills in real-life situations and cope with the world outside, instead of just sticking to the academics. This will also help in making them self-reliant individuals. • Rebuild Bangladesh as a nation by showcasing the talent of the underprivileged class: Many underprivileged students have talent and potential in them and we believe that, by bringing out their talent, we can develop our country further. • Continuity of education of the underprivileged: We help pupils remove obstacles from their path to achieve their dreams, by ensuring that the students’ education does not stop in primary or secondary level. We aim to provide vocational training to the students to equip them with life skills or help those who are eager for higher studies by assisting them in applying to various national and international universities, as mentioned above. • Contributing to building the economy of the country: Illuminar helps to grow students who are likely to stay back in Bangladesh and use their talent to develop the economy of Bangladesh. Services: Our motto is to provide the services listed below to all the students who are deprived and hence ensure a better future for them: • English speaking and writing skills: To better equip the students to participate in international programs, be it academic or non-academic, and show the world their potential. • Real-life knowledge to handle practical situations: This will help students cope with real-life situations and problems as well as prepare them to live a better life independently in future. • Knowledge on IT and programming sector of Bangladesh: To impart education on IT, computer science and programming to the underprivileged students so that more of them take up jobs in the IT and programming sector of Bangladesh and develop this sector further.
