The Education Collaborative
The Education Collaborative spearheads a model of collective engagement that promises to significantly reshape higher education outcomes for students. This transformative scale initiative adopts a network approach that fosters trust and collective commitments among higher education leaders and stakeholders, driving sustainable results within the systems they govern and influence. At the core of this pioneering movement lies a membership model that encourages open engagement and sharing and fosters a sense of community accountability among participating institutions. The Collaborative is establishing sub-regional hubs, led by exemplary public and private institutions within each region, to ensure that this model incorporates a deep level of contextualization within different regulatory environments. By doing so, institutions can deepen their ability to advance quality education outcomes while raising the bar for other regional institutions. Targeting systemic transformation, we conceptualise impact as an interrelated spectrum where engagements within the network result in improved outcomes for individuals, their institutions, regions, and the continent. We utilise both quantitative and qualitative approaches to track these outcomes and progress, supporting decision-making on strategy and resource allocation, and communicating impact to various stakeholders. By 2030, The Education Collaborative aims to build a 140-member network that transforms at least 1 million students into ethical, entrepreneurial leaders capable of creating jobs, advancing industries, and driving economic growth across Africa. Over the last six years, the Collaborative has grown considerably in reach and impact in the higher-ed space in sub-Saharan Africa. We have built the foundations for establishing thought leadership in key focal areas by launching scalable initiatives, developing tools and case studies, and strategic partnerships with member institutions and organisations.

The School currently has a student population of around 1200 and offers courses in engineering, business, law, nursing and computer science and is affiliated to KNUST as our mentor institution and for engineering and business, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) for our law program, and to University for Development Studies (UDS) for computer Science. According to the Founder of KAAF University College, Mr Michael Aidoo, two things prompted him to establish the University College: He realized, after many years of working with various organizations, that there were Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates who sometimes proved more proficient than BSC. Degree holders but were discriminated against in terms of remuneration and the opportunities to rise to top management positions because they did not possess degrees. He, therefore, decided to help such HND holders to obtain the necessary engineering degrees not only to improve their performance and increase their earnings but to provide them with the opportunity to grow. He desired to help increase the number of engineers in the country. As such, he decided to establish a University College near Accra Because there were institutions and organization in the metropolitan area that had laboratories which could be accessible to the students of the University College.
