New Leaders Foundation
New Leaders Foundation (NLF) is a dynamic start-up, not-for-profit company with a dedicated team who have partnered with government, the private sector and civil society organisations to drive sustainable change in education in South Africa. NLF started in November 2009 with a mandate from the funders and board of directors to develop a cost effective and sustainable model for improving learner performance which could be replicated. The initial eighteen month intervention was in the Johannesburg Central District and six of their schools in the Klipspruit West and Dube areas. This involved supporting and up skilling the district and school managers to drive effective curriculum delivery to their learners. In January 2013 the Data Driven Districts project was launched into 5 Ekudibeng districts with project funding from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) and in partnership with the Department of Basic Education. The following year the Designed District Service Support Programme was accredited through the University of Free State. In March 2014, the NLF’s participation in the Data Driven Districts Project was expanded with additional funding from MSDF. NLF furthered their involvement in the project by taking over the processing of data submissions from McKinsey. In March 2015, NLF was appointed to lead the implementation of the Data Driven Districts Project. This was made possible by expansion funding from MSDF. To date we have launched the project in 75 districts and currently support over 19 schools in seven provinces. In order to create greater scale and impact we have partnered with other NGOs to drive learner outcomes by improving the way key educational data is collected and used by officials in the education system to support schools and teachers more effectively. In 2018 NLF continues their work with MSDF and First Rand Empowerment Fund (FREF) while implementing educational projects with Old Mutual,Zenex and the ELMA Foundation.

The Turning Point Sa
The Turning Point was started by Ben and Tanya McCarthy in July 2013. They have both been involved in education in South Africa for the past 18 years and have seen the need for Educational and Emotional Support for children. At The Turning Point, every child is treated as an individual and given the time and attention they deserve. When learning problems go undetected, children develop feelings of hopelessness, and as they become increasingly aware of their 'failure' and lack of achievement, they go into a downward spiral and are eventually labelled as 'lazy' or 'problem' children. Emotional problems that develop in children with learning difficulties can be more debilitating than the learning difficulty itself.

Count Africa
The Co-operative Organisation for the Upgrading of Numeracy Training (COUNT) was established in 1989, the focus was to assist in teaching and implementing innovative world standard numeracy education. The first ever programme was launched in the Eastern Cape. In the early 90’s COUNT, our former Director Penny Smith established offices in Johannesburg and this was a new dawn for Count. COUNT launched Saturday school programmes, catering for rural school children in Lanseria and Krugersdorp farm schools. Every Saturday throughout the year COUNT transported children to attend fun maths classes, using innovative equipment to implement learning and development. Encouraging pupils to learn maths and drawing solutions whilst providing expert numerical learning. As the organisation expanded nationwide experts joined the team, assisting with tutoring the learners on Saturdays, introducing games and puzzles to solve complex maths problems. As COUNT’s reach grew, new partnerships were formed. COUNT collaborated with colleagues from Utrecht, Netherland and Holland to introduce groundbreaking mathematical programmes. In partnership with students from the Etho-Mathematics group in Mozambique a hands-on workshop was developed. The programme incorporated the use of indigenous basket weaving designs to develop ideas around geometry and patterns. This was our first introduction of Etho-Mathematics, which is the study of the relationship between mathematics and culture. To date we operate in three different provinces within South Africa, with a wide range of programmes, which are: • Family Maths Programme • Family Maths Science Literacy • Teacher Development and Support Programme • Learner Support Programme and Material Development At COUNT, we believe a winning nation is a numerate nation and strive to be industry leaders in numerical education and development.

Empowervate
Empowervate: Empowering the Next Generation of Active Citizens Empowervate empowers and motivates the next generation of active citizens through our flagship initiative, The Youth Citizens Action Programme (YCAP). YCAP provides a comprehensive toolkit and workshops focused on project management skills development. These initiatives culminate in showcase platforms at district, provincial, and national levels, in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education. Over the past 15 years, YCAP has impacted more than learners, fostering a mindset of active citizenship and social entrepreneurship. We run the programme in collaboration with the Department of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture, and we rely on donor funds to operate. To continue our impactful work, we need more funders to support our programme. For more info, visit
