Setsmol Credit Literacy Company
Setsmol is a South African based Housing Education Company. It was conceived out of the observation that most people in South Africa are still in the dark with matters relating to housing due to lack of property ownership knowledge. Setsmol’s research findings are that rights, contractual obligations, accountability and responsibilities of the prospective property owners are not adequately explained in a way that would demystify the whole scenario which then results in flagrant defaults. Our historical background has left behind a legacy of its own kind in the arena of housing provision. It allowed for a big gap to be created in housing delivery. The Affordability, Credibility and sustenance of home-ownership and the understanding of the investment component thereof which is so vital are not addressed adequately. Our short courses of education make it possible for realtors and consumers to be aware of the above-mentioned factors in order to eliminate the risk of default and on the other-hand sustain home – ownership by ensuring that affordability is well understood and implemented in one’s life. This education EMPOWERS people to become competent citizens in relation to Housing and should be a pre- requisite in any initiative of housing delivery. Setsmol uses simplified day to day languages in its presentation of the courses.

Sparrow Fet Enterprises
Since 1990, Sparrow Schools Educational Trust has developed into a dynamic and multi-faceted non-government organisation. The early years of Sparrow Schools were focused on bringing accredited schooling to cognitively disabled and disadvantaged youth. Since then, it has established and expanded organisational structures to address a wider range of needs found in the current South African environment — this includes the the creation of Sparrow FET College in 2010. The College adopts a theory, practice and real-world application approach to skills development. In the classroom, learners cover theoretical curriculum content in a simulated workplace environment through which theoretical and practical skills are taught and applied. Learners then carry these skills to their industry placement. Sparrow FET College and the industry work together to provide learners with internships during which they are fully supported, comprehensively trained, and prepared for future employment. The process starts with an assessment by a registered psychometrist. After this, a job coach is tasked with tracking each learner’s progress during their placement. Job coaches also monitor the learner’s career once they are fully employed, enabling us to assure industries that learners will become trustworthy employees. This means that we balance our social responsibility towards young South Africans, who seek a structured and nurturing path into the economy, with the creation of a stable and healthy relationship between Sparrow FET College and the industry.

St Mary's Primary School
St. Mary’s School was built in 1946 by the Catholic Church. It is situated between two townships namely, Nyanga and New Crossroads. It admits children from both townships and Philippi Informal Settlement another nearby township. In 1947 the school received a small government subsidy but was withdrawn in 1954. Classes went from Sub A to Std 6 with an enrolment of 500 pupils. Between the years 1972 and 1990, the Dominican Sisters were involved in the school both in leadership and in the classroom. A past pupil of this school (St. Mary’s) took over the leadership in 1990. At the same time of the introduction of the new Education Bill, negotiations were being carried out between the Church and Western Cape Education Department concerning the status of the school. These negotiations resulted in St. Mary’s becoming a public school on private property in July 1996, under the following conditions: 1) government rents the property while the owner maintains the property; and 2) teachers are employed by the government and the pupils are looked after by the government. St. Mary’s is a primary school that caters for Grade R to Grade 7 in dual medium education (i.e. isiXhosa and English) which is provided in line with the Education Department’s requirements. The school is steadily growing. We have two classes per grade. Grade R – Grade 7. The number of learners has grown over 600 from 2005. The school is involved in different programs that help our learners namely: Amy Biehl Foundation – for communication skills. Art Therapy – for learners with academic disability Contact Information Principal: Maggy Mkoko (Acting) Phone: 021 207 3739 Fax:None Email: admin@stmarysrcprim.wcape.school.za Website: none Physical address: Abonwabisi Road Nyanga Western Cape 7755 So
