In this changing world, there’s an increasing need for clean and reliable sources of energy. Ocean Current energy can provide in that need. Worldwide, there's a huge energy potential in harvesting deep sea currents, with focus areas spread alongside the four continents. The Promise of Ocean Currents: The key advantage of Ocean currents is their predictability and constant flow; they are considered clean baseload by energy utility companies. Another feature is their relatively low speed, which minimizes installation and operational risks compared to other energy sources while providing excellent earning capacity -double the energy per megawatt installed compared to offshore wind. The Challenge: These low water flow speeds do present a technical challenge for the turbine; traditional turbine designs are uneconomical at very low flow speeds. Equinox utilizes a proprietary two-stage turbine technology, where energy is first concentrated before harvesting. Combined with smart material usage, this results in a highly scalable and economic product. Building on the experience and knowledge of existing, proven technology, Equinox aims to provide a commercial solution in five years. Our Progress: In July 2024 we’ve closed a seed funding round, allowing us to develop and build a scale model to prove our turbine concept. From our HQ in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, we're starting this critical development phase, focused on validating our approach to harnessing Ocean Current energy. De systemen die Volta in Huis installeert slaan goedkope energie op in een eigen thuisaccu. Energie uit eigen zonnepanelen, maar ook energie ingekocht op de goedkoopste momenten van de dag. De stroom uit de thuisaccu gebruik je op de momenten dat de stroom juist duur is. Zo wordt de elektriciteitsrekening een stuk lager! Naast een kostenbesparing zorgt een thuisaccu ook voor continuïteit bij stroomstoringen, een grotere onafhankelijkheid en duurzaamheid. Er gaat immer een kilowatt meer verloren. Kortom: De accu wordt geladen met de goedkoopste stroom. En gebruiken de stroom in de accu op de momenten dat de stroom het duurst is.
