Ice - Institute For Circular Economy

Institut za cirkularnu ekonomiju - Institute for Circular Economy (I.C.E.) is a non-profit non-governmental organisation established in Zagreb, Croatia, with the main objective of promoting circular practices in various sectors (from waste and water management, construction industry etc.). It also creates, promotes and implements projects and policies related to sustainable urban development (from spatial redevelopment, re-greening of cities, renaturing derelict and degraded areas, to bottom-up collaborative practices). I.C.E staff is specialised in supporting public actors in policy creation and transition, whereas private entities can get support in development of new, sustainable and circular business models and practices. I.C.E. is the first institute of its kind in Croatia particularly specialised for circular economy and sustainable urban transition. I.C.E. is currently working on the following EU projects: Interreg CE - CoFarm4Cities The rapid expansion of cities increasingly causes land use conflicts. Green areas are declining while citizens demand more community gardens and cultivable spaces. This calls for a new approach on urban land use, which the CoFarm4Cities project delivers. The partnership develops climate-friendly, nature-based solutions that increase urban resilience to climate change. They design and pilot a replicable model for profitable urban farming with key stakeholders in five cities. Interreg CE - BIOECO-UP The bioeconomy concept seeks to replace fossil resources with renewable raw materials in as many areas and applications as possible. The BIOECO-UP project widely establishes this concept across central Europe. The partners will design new circular value chains for the bioeconomy and change consumer behaviour.

Woolee

The Eko Lika GREENNovation project has built a leading center for the production of organic fertilizer from raw sheep wool at the national and regional level. Through the development of innovation and green bio-entrepreneurship, our goal is to contribute to the sustainable development of the karst region in the Republic of Croatia and beyond, promoting the concept of a circular economy. We base our project on ecological principles, thus supporting eco-agriculture and sustainable tourism. WOOLEE wool pellets are made exclusively from raw sheep wool. They contain no traces of polymers, plastics or chemicals, making them safe for children and pets. In addition, our fertilizer retains moisture and gradually releases it into the soil, thus reducing water consumption by 25% and increasing yields by 30%. By using wool as a resource for the production of organic fertilizer and repellent, instead of treating it as waste, we have successfully solved the environmental problem that was threatening the national parks and nature parks in Lika. Every year, about 200-300 tons of sheep wool ends up in nature in this area of Lika alone.(in Croatia about 1300 tons). Our decision to use wool and create a new product contributes to environmental protection and achieving CO2 neutrality. WOOLEE fertilizer - NPK 9-12.5%- 0-5% nitrogen slow-release fertilizer, improves soil quality and plant growth. Unlike chemical fertilizers that feed plants but deplete the soil, WOOLEE organic fertilizer enriches the soil and strengthens plants. WOOLLE repellent is an effective protection against snails and pests.

Park Prirode Učka Učka Nature Park

Učka Nature Park spreads over the mountain Učka and part of the mountainous plateau of Ćićarija, and is located along the north Adriatic coast on one of the northest points of the Mediterranean. It was founded in because of its specific relief and the closeness of the sea, geological structures, and distinctive climate, as well as the cultural heritage with archaeological findings. To this must be added other rich habitats such as meadows and other anthropogenic ones inhabited by a vast number of endemic, endangered, and protected plant and animal species, making it one of the most distinguished biodiversity points in Europe. The headquarters of the Učka Nature Park is in the new Visiter Centre „Poklon“. Interpretive, educational, tourist, conference and office facilities have found their place in it. It is at 930 meters above sea level, which makes it truly unique on a local and global scale. The central point of the Center is a multimedia interpretation exhibition. In a modern and interactive way, it presents the natural, cultural and historical values of the Učka Nature Park and surrounding areas, with an emphasis on the needs of its protection and preservation.

Rudan Ltd is the ESCO company that was established in 1994 by Mr. Graciano Rudan. The core business of the company is energy efficiency, rationalization of energy consumption through ESCO model and installations of metering systems for energy consumption. ESCO comes from the English abbreviation for Energy Service Company and marks the business model where the ESCO company completely finances energy or water saving projects, and is payd only from the part of savings, which is achieved through a defined number of years. This means that the company takes on all the risks surrounding the project implementation. Our USP is that we implement all solutions in-house, as we have a facility management department. Our clients are the largest Croatian shipyards (Uljanik, 3. Maj, Brodotrogir, Brodosplit, BK Kraljevica), the Port of Rijeka, Croatian Railways, large hotel chains (Istraturist, Adris group, Riviera Holding, NP Brijuni), large municipal companies (Coca Cola, Bauhaus, METRO, Badel) and many others. In 2005, 2010 and 2012 we were declared by the Croatian Chamber of Economy as the best small company in Istria, Croatia. In 2008 we introduced the quality system ISO 9001:2008 for the effective management of energy sources and since 2009 we have been members of the International Water Association (IWA). In 2014. Rudan Ltd gained ISO certificate for Energy management, and now the company provides energy management solutions and preparation for gaining certificate to clients as well. The headquarters of the company are in Žminj, Istria, with branch offices in Zagreb, Split and Rijeka. Company employs 47 full-time employees, 37% of which are highly educated. In October 2014 Rudan Ltd opened first passive business building in Croatia, where all the newest technologies and solutions for energy efficiency are implemented. Program Life - Hr Nacionalna Kontakt Točka

Ministarstvo zaštite okoliša i zelene tranzicije je Nacionalna kontakt točka (National Contact Point, NCP) za Program LIFE u Hrvatskoj. Program LIFE postoji od 1992. i najvažniji je financijski instrument Europske unije za razvoj politika zaštite okoliša i klime.
