An established organization for Babuaf and Lower Watut Farmers located within the Wafi Golpu Area, Wampar LLG and the Huon Gulf District of the Morobe Province. The main purpose of establishing the Society is to develop, empower and inspire our local farmers to value agriculture and livestock as an important economic activity through committed and passionate leadership and continuous improvement that results in producing the best agricultural produce. The Babuaf Farmers Cooperative Limited is made up of eight different cluster groups from the four main villages of Babuaf [Wori, Mazim, Kapungung and Wongkins]. The cooperative intends to undertake business activities that will provide support to its members and enhance the existing cash crops such as the cocoa farming, livestock, vegetable and rice farming that the farmers are involved in currently. Vision/Mission Our vision is to be a model Cooperative Society for other mining centres and mining companies within Papua New Guinea as while many will concentrate on the benefits the mine will generate on the economy, the Babuaf Farmers Cooperative Society also venture into Agribusiness to create wealth and sustain livelihood and welfare of our members. Our mission is to empower members of the society to participate meaningfully in Agribusiness activities particularly cocoa and to produce high quality cash crops, vegetables and livestock in large quantity readily available for markets locally, domestically and globally.

Sustainable regenerative farming practices, sustainable environmental and forestry, sustainable employment for locals, sustainable food security and a sustainable business model. Small Scale Regenerative Farming We have an extensive market garden and crop base for supply and sale. We work with local farmers to improve soil quality through education, technology, and agricultural practices to improve yields. IEL produces its own fertilizer and distributes it to local farmers to assist in soil regeneration. We use our own crops to produce our livestock feed and supply local markets. IEL assists local farmers to prepare their land and provides linkages to markets to transport goods for sale. Livestock Diversification IEL is currently raising multiple livestock species including tilapia. Our livestock is all produced using organic and free-range methods with feed produced from our own farm. Our livestock is used for commercial or retail sale, production of bi-products and our own consumption. Eco-Tourism Our aim is to construct a boutique eco-retreat focused on sustainable practices and locally grown produce. It is envisaged that we will be open to guests in late 2023. Sustainable Forestry and Lumber We have detailed records of each tree felled with a commitment to plant 2 trees for each utilised in the construction of our business. We also sell sustainably harvested hardwoods.
