Tpc Ltd
In Alteo Ltd, in partnership with Groupe Quartier Français (now Tereos Océan Indien) from Reunion Island, acquired a majority stake in Tanzania-based TPC Ltd. Situated in the Kilimanjaro region, TPC Ltd is one of Tanzania's largest sugar estates. Of its hectares of land, hectares are used for sugar cane cultivation. Over the years, TPC Ltd has made significant investments in the rehabilitation and upgrading of fields, infrastructure and equipment. As a result of the sustained progress made in these areas, sugar production has increased from an annual production base of tonnes to the present tonnes. At the same time, considerable experience was acquired and efficiency gains were achieved in a number of areas including cane varieties, fertilization, irrigation, transport and sugar recovery. Although its operations have reached maturity and are showing positive results, TPC Ltd plans to further increase sugar production in the coming years by cultivating additional land, introducing new cane varieties, adopting more efficient irrigation and fertilisation methods and improving factory recoveries. Other potential development projects for years to come include the setting up of a distillery to improve the value added from molasses and the extension of electricity production throughout the year by burning non-cane biomass in the intercrop. TPC Ltd has 1,900 permanent employees and an additional seasonal workers. It also provides an additional 800 jobs through outsourced services. Its CSR programme targets the promotion of community-based revenue-enchancing initiatives, targeting healthcare, education and infrastructure.

Avomeru Group Ltd
Smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa rarely reap the full fruits of their labour. Farmers face a number of challenges such as sub-optimal yields, food losses and waste, and unfair market returns. Farmers' vulnerability is a reflection of agricultural practices and low added-value on their produce sold locally or exported globally. After harvest, avocados in particular are prone to spoilage and in Tanzania; typically 85% of harvested avocados go to waste due to storage, cooling and transportation constraints. Tanzania produces about tons every year but only 11,200 tons reach the global market. This represents a huge economic opportunity to capture value from these under-utilised avocados and to develop products with higher shelf life and with high-demand on the regional and international market. Avomeru group Ltd is the startup social enterprise strengthening farmer's livelihoods by producing organic cold-pressed avocado oil. The grand purpose of the project is to reduce post-harvest food loss in avocado value chains, ensuring an additional income for smallholder farmers, and creating job opportunities for youth involvement in agriculture. Through production and marketing of avocado oil, we save hundreds of tons of avocados from going to waste by processing them into a highly demanded product with long shelf-life.
