Aquarech Ltd
We are a social enterprise targeting rural based small-scale fish farmers to improve their productivity, increase income and develop an inclusive community based aquaculture value chain. Aquarech App is a centralized database system that links key actors in the fish value chain namely; farmers, trader and input suppliers. The innovation monitors growth of fish from the time of stocking to the time of sale. It provides vital production data such as the quantity of feed fed, average daily growth, FCR, fish price, feed cost. Further to this the innovation has an inbuilt feeding regime that calculates automatically for the farmer the exact amount of feed to be fed based on water temperature, size of fish and quantity of fish. Our Objectives : To improve fish production through better data recording practices utilizing the App within the first year of operation To connect farmers and traders through a streamlined online trading platform based on the App To connect input suppliers and farmers through a customized central database hosted on the App within six months To reduce/eliminate fish for sex trade by enabling women fish traders to access fish through a verified platform free of any manipulated data or circumstances within the first harvest.

Kumbatia Seafood
Proudly partnered with Simple Life Processing & Services Ltd. Kumbatia offers East Africa’s finest artisanally-sourced seafood. Sushi-grade, sustainable, traceable, and food safe, all our fishers are paid a premium for adhering to our company’s high standards. Our seafood is then processed in a state-of-the-art facility with FDA, EU, KEBS, GSA, and HACCP certifications. All of our products can be packed and value-added according to the client’s request and exported fresh or blast frozen anywhere across the world via sea or air freight. Our Model: The Challenge: For most communities on the Swahili Coast, market access is minimal, seafood buying prices are low, input costs are high, and destructive fishing practices are common. While artisanal harvesters have demonstrated a willingness to fish more responsibly, interventions aimed at increasing sustainability have historically led to unchanged or even diminished income for fishers. As a result, harmful fishing practices persist and coastal poverty rates in countries such as Kenya remain above 60%. The Opportunity: By training on industry-best fish handling methods, financing and reducing fishing trip expenses, and implementing an efficient off-grid cold chain from boat to processing facility, Kumbatia empowers its network of fishers by giving them the skills and resources required to produce traceable and sustainable seafood of world-class quality. Seafood of this caliber has much higher demand and value than that which has historically been harvested from East Africa’s waters, meaning sustainability and quality compliant fishers are able to greatly increase their earnings and reduce their expenses by working with Kumbatia. This unique training, financing, logistics, and market-based conservation model creates an environment and incentive structure that results in world-class seafood, enhanced marine conservation, and improved livelihoods for artisanal fishing communities along East Africa’s Swahili coast.
