The ESM is the crisis resolution mechanism for euro area countries. The ESM issues debt instruments in order to finance loans and other forms of financial assistance to euro area Member States. The decision leading to the creation of the ESM was taken by the European Council in December 2010. The euro area Member States signed an intergovernmental treaty establishing the ESM on 2 February 2012. The ESM was inaugurated on 8 October 2012 and is based in Luxembourg.

The Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union was created on 28 November 1994 as a rational response to the translation needs of a large number of European agencies and offices. Its mission is to meet the extensive and growing translation needs of European agencies, offices and bodies as well as to absorb any surplus work of the Institutions which have their own translation services. The Centre also actively participates in inter-institutional cooperation with a view to rationalising working methods and achieving global economies of scale. The Centre is an agency governed by European public law, with legal personality. It has its own financial resources constituted by the transfers from the agencies, offices and institutions in exchange for services provided. The Centre is established in Luxembourg, in accordance with the decision taken by the Heads of State and Government of 29 October 1993 on the location of the seats of certain decentralised agencies.

Luxembourg Maritime Administration
In less than 20 years, Luxembourg has developed an attractive and reliable jurisdiction for shipping. Since the signing of the Luxembourg Maritime Act in 1990, ships flying the “Red Lion”* have been navigating the seven seas. Luxembourg legislation has constantly evolved in order to encourage the development of various activities around maritime affairs. Numerous synergies involving the financial, insurance and logistics sector have recently emerged. These have lead to the creation of the Luxembourg Maritime Cluster in 2008, illustrating how a developing Maritime sector fits in with the Luxembourg government’s economic development policy. It is the role of the Luxembourg Maritime Administration (Commissariat aux affaires maritimes), to support the maritime sector in a spirit of service while respecting national, European and international regulations. The administration offers a quality service which, since has led to ISO 9001 certification. In recent years the number of ships registered into the Luxembourg Maritime Register has constantly increased. Today, the Luxembourg maritime legislation has proven its effectiveness and the Luxembourg shipping sector continues to grow even in an environment of a continuously changing global economy.

The Bridge Forum Dialogue
The Bridge Forum Dialogue is a non-profit organisation established in Luxembourg, which serves as a platform for interdisciplinary debates. It aims at linking, on the one side, the European institutions established in Luxembourg and, on the other side, the actors and institutions of Luxembourg financial, economic and legal life. This new network for information and cooperation organises meetings on subjects, which give the different participants a framework allowing them to put their skills and abilities to the best use. The Forum also provides an appropriate framework for cultural and social activities.
