The BVI bore the brunt of Irma’s devastation with its eye passing over the Territory on September 6th, 2017 with 185 miles per hour sustained winds gusting to 215 miles per hour. In order to guide an effective, efficient and transparent recovery process, the Government of the Virgin Islands will establish the BVI Recovery and Development Agency to implement the British Virgin Islands Recovery & Development Plan.

The Office of the Auditor General is a statutory position established by the Virgin Islands Constitution to audit and report upon the accounts of government and public bodies. The Auditor General carries out financial and performance audits through staff employed in the Audit Department and by the engagement of professional accounting firms. The Auditor General is the departmental head and accounting officer responsible for the professional leadership of the Audit Department. Administratively, the Audit Department is hosted by the Government of the Virgin Islands, but (in accordance with section 109(4) of the Constitution) the Auditor General acts independently and is not subject to the direction or control of any person or authority.
