Higher Education Commission
The Higher Education Commission has been set up by the Government of Pakistan to facilitate the development of indigenous universities to be world-class centers of education, research and development. Through facilitating this process, the HEC intends to play its part in spearheading the building of a knowledge-based economy in Pakistan. Following past decades of underinvestment, the renewed realization of the Government of Pakistan of the importance of the higher education sector towards fuelling economic growth led to the establishment of the Higher Education Commission in 2002. Founded by Presidential Ordinance in September 2002,the Commission has been entrusted with a broad mandate to evaluate, improve and promote the higher education and research sector in Pakistan. The reform agenda has been supported through the granting of a large array of powers to the Commission to fulfill its mandate, and record increases in financial resources by the Government to support this process. Since its establishment, the Higher Education Commission has undertaken a systematic process of implementation of the five-year agenda for reform outlined in the HEC Medium Term Development Framework (MTDF), in which Access, Quality and Relevance have been identified as the key challenges faced by the sector. To address these challenges a comprehensive strategy has been defined that identifies the core strategic aims for reform as (i) Faculty Development,(ii) Improving Excellence in Learning and Research, and (iv) Relevance to National Priorities. These strategic aims are supported by well-integrated cross-cutting themes for developing Leadership, Governance and Management, enhancing Quality Assessment and Accreditation and Physical and Technological Infrastructure Development.

Indus Valley School Of Art And Architecture
Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture (IVS) was founded in 1990 by a group of professional architects, designers and artists who believed that Karachi was in critical need of a school of excellence encompassing the disciplines of Fine Art, Design and Architecture. The School is registered as a not-for-profit, non-commercial institution and is managed by an Executive Committee, through the office of the Executive Director. The Executive Committee and the Executive Director work with an independent Board of Governors that includes distinguished educationists, artists, architects, industrialists, bankers and media persons. In addition, the Government of Sindh nominates three members of the Board and the Governor of Sindh fulfils the role of the official patron of the School. IVS was granted an independent charter by the Government of Sindh in June 1994, thereby empowering it to award its own degrees. It was the fourth private institution of higher learning in Pakistan to be given that status. Admission to the School is strictly based on merit, as determined by an aptitude test, an interview process and a weightage criterion. The School is placed at the W3-category of DAIs and ranked as the second best institute of Art and Design education in Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The four-year academic programme in Fine Art and Design and the five-year academic programme in Architecture began in September 1990 with the induction of forty-five students. Ned University Of Engineering And Technology
NED University of Engineering & Technology, formerly called the NED Government Engineering College, was established in March 1977 through an act of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Pakistan. NED Government Engineering College was set up in 1922 and therefore, it is one of the oldest engineering degree-awarding institutions in Pakistan. At the time of its inception, the institution was called the Prince of Wales Engineering College. Later, it was renamed in honor of Mr. Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshaw, who donated a large amount for the construction of the original buildings and laboratories of the engineering college. NED College was initially affiliated with the University of Bombay. After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, it was taken over by the Government of Sindh, renamed as NED Government Engineering College, and affiliated to the University of Sindh. Once the University of Karachi was established in 1951, the affiliation of NED College was transferred to it. In 1964, NED College was shifted from its initial location in downtown (City Campus) to the current location on University Road (Main Campus), adjacent to the University of Karachi. Finally, on March 1, 1977, NED Government Engineering College was upgraded to the present NED University of Engineering & Technology. Today, NED University stands as the guiding beacon of light for the technological transformation of Pakistan into a new era of development and prosperity. Thousands of alumni from the university are serving in engineering and management of major industrial corporations in Pakistan, the Middle East, and beyond. University Of Central Punjab
Education in the 21st century demands a balance between continuity and change. The technological leaps and the consequences thereof has overtaken the old educational paradigms and new concepts have emerged in the world of learning. The Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC) was among the first to realize this transition and its challenges. PGC, therefore, submitted a petition to the Government of Punjab, in August 1996, to allow to establish a university in the province. A No Objection Certificate was issued in October The charter to establish the University of Central Punjab (UCP) was awarded in April 2002. The Kinnaird College for Women (KCW) is a university located in Lahore, Pakistan. It is a women's liberal arts university. Kinnaird was established in 1913 by the Zenana Bible and Medical Mission. In 1919, Presbyterian Mission Church and the Church Mission Society joined a consortium to fund and operate the college. In 1926 it moved to its current campus on the Jail Road, where it grew over the years and by 1939 the college had grown into a 20-acre m2) campus. The college is named after Lady Mary Jane Kinnaird co-founder of YWCA and a great philanthropist of her time. The now university was established at the start of the 20th century when it was housed near Kinnaird High School.
