The Facade Nigeria
The Facade Nigeria is geared towards educating and enlightening people on Nigeria’s history, focusing on biographies, societal and associational life, and public history of the 19th and early to mid-20th centuries. We use social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook to chronicle historic events and daily life in Lagos Colony and Colonial Nigeria. Our work has connected individuals, home and abroad, with their ancestors, as well as educating Nigerian architects on the fundamentals of the Afro-Brazilian and Neo-Classical Architecture that many buildings in Lagos were influenced by and the need to preserve them. We have been featured on Arise TV Africa, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Guardian Life Nigeria, Lost in Lagos Magazine, etc. Our projects range from assisting people in finding their ancestors with information about their ancestry, Lagos Island History Tour, research assistance for Masters and Ph.D. students, etc, and our archive boasts of newspaper collections from the 19th and 20th centuries regarding daily life in Nigeria, old photographs of Nigeria, as well as tens of thousands of modern-day photos of historic buildings and sites across Nigeria.
