The National Insurance Timor-Leste, SA (NITL) is the first onshore general insurance company in the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to be licensed by the Banking and Payments Authority of Timor-Leste. On 10 March 2010, NITL become the first licensed General Insurer in Timor-Leste, pursuant to Article 12 paragraph 5 of the Insurance Law No. 06/2005 on the Regime for the Licensing, Supervision and Regulation of Insurance Companies and Insurance Intermediaries, the Banking and Payments Authority of Timor-Leste approved the issuance of license to NITL to operate as a general insurance company in Timor-Leste.
