Penal Reform International In Mena
Penal Reform International (PRI) has been working across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region since 1991 to promote fair, effective, and human rights-compliant criminal justice systems. Operating from its regional office in Amman, Jordan, PRI MENA currently supports initiatives in Algeria, Jordan, Sudan, and Yemen. Despite progress in aligning justice systems with international standards, the region faces persistent challenges, including prison overcrowding, trial delays, lack of resources, weak inter-agency coordination, and, in some areas, limited political will. PRI MENA focuses on tackling these challenges through reform programmes, advocacy, and technical assistance, working closely with governments, civil society, and international bodies. Our goal is to ensure that criminal justice systems uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals, with special attention to vulnerable groups, including women, children, and marginalized communities.
