A central element of UNDP’s current work is the support to the implementation of the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) helping Kazakhstan achieve the transition to sustainable development.

Escap Subregional Office For North And Central Asia

The ESCAP Subregional Office for North and Central Asia, based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, covers nine members, namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan participates in the work of the subregional office as a member of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA).

CICA is a multi-national forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia. Consisting of 28 Member States, 10 Observer States, and 5 Observer Organizations, it is a forum based on the recognition that there is a close link between peace, security and stability in Asia and in the rest of the world. The organization’s Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) are categorized under five broad domains: economic dimension, environmental dimension, human dimension, new challenges and threats, and military-political dimension. Member States have volunteered to act as coordinators for implementing specific projects of confidence building measures, dealing with issues such as terrorism, border control management, human trafficking and transnational crime, development of secure and effective systems of transportation corridors, combating illicit drugs, natural disaster management, energy security, development of small and medium enterprises, tourism, agriculture, finance and sustainable development.

Kazakhstan Agency Of International Development Kazaid

KazAID is Kazakhstan's Agency of International Development which works to assist in the economic development of its neighbouring countries in the region. The Agency is a subordinate organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main directions of state policy in the field of ODA for 2021-2025 have been approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan № 625 of 19 July 2021 and determine, in accordance with the Law, sectoral and geographical priorities of the Kazakh ODA. KazAID focuses on the following sectors: education; health and sanitation; environment and climate change; management of natural resources; digitalization; agriculture; gender equality; support for entrepreneurship; good governance.

Launched on 8th of June 2022, SDSN Kazakhstan is part of the global initiative launched by the United Nations to mobilize expertise and resources from academia, civil society, private sector, and government to promote sustainable development. SDSN Kazakhstan, which currently comprises 25 members across the country, aims to advance the UNSDGs by fostering collaboration, research, and practical solutions at local, national, and global levels. SDSN Kazakhstan’s research priorities are shaped by the local context, stakeholder consultations, and prevailing challenges and opportunities in the country. SDSN Kazakhstan currently focuses on the following three research priorities: 1. Land, Water, and Communities (SDG 7, 8, 9, 12) 2. Energy and Climate (SDG 7, 13) 3. European Union In Kazakhstan

The EU Delegation to the Republic of Kazakhstan was opened in 1994. The office, based in Almaty, was the first EU Delegation to Central Asia. In 2007, the office of the EU Delegation to Kazakhstan was transferred to Nur-Sultan, the country’s new capital. The Almaty office closed on 1 November 2010 and all relevant staff positions were transferred to Nur-Sultan. The Delegation’s role is to: Represent EU interests in Kazakhstan; Coordinate with the embassies of EU countries; Develop relations in areas such as political cooperation, the economy, trade and external assistance – especially through implementation of the EU-Kazakhstan Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement; Follow-up EU policies in all sectors, particularly via the EU-Central Asia: Strategy for a New Partnership; Promote and defend the values and interests of the EU; Maintain and increase awareness and understanding of the EU.
