The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Zambia since 1966. GIZ focuses on three priority areas in the country, namely water and renewable energies, good governance and agriculture and food security. In addition to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), further commissioning parties are the Federal Foreign Office (AA), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the European Commission. GIZ has maintained an office in the capital, Lusaka, since 1982. Zambia China Economic & Trade Cooperation Zone (abbreviated as ZCCZ) is the first Chinese oversea economic and trade cooperation zone in Africa and also the first multi-facility economic zone approved by Zambian government. ZCCZ was established in order to implement one of the eight measures “Establish three to five economic and trade cooperation zones in Africa in the next three years” pledged by the former Chinese President Mr. Hu Jintao at Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2006. Instructed by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co. Ltd (abbreviated as CNMC) has been in charge of the development, construction and management of ZCCZ since then. Founded in 1983, CNMC is a large-scale central enterprise under the management of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.Now CNMC is the largest Chinese Investor in Zambia.

Private Enterprise Programme Zambia
The Private Enterprise Programme-Zambia (PEPZ) is a £14 million, five-year project funded by the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID) and being implemented by Nathan Associates London between October 2014 and March 2019. It has 11 staff. PEPZ aims to build and strengthen the capacity of Zambian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the private sector to create jobs and contribute to the diversification of the economy. PEPZ will be implemented through targeted interventions that will identify and enable entrepreneurs with the attitude and willingness to become more competitive. Women and youth will also be a focus of the programme. PEPZ aims to achieve these goals through an integrated approach that has four interlinked components: 1. Business Linkages to assist small businesses participate in the supply chains of larger established companies in all sectors. Business Development Services that will give small businesses a competitive edge by opening the doors to a wide range of professional services that can help them grow. Business Plan Competition to support start-ups and innovative businesses through a competition that unleashes talent and creates entrepreneurial heroes. Accelerator Fund that will provide a combination of finance and technical support to propel promising businesses onto the next level.
